Smart Farming: Feeding the Future

Many economies across Sub-Saharan Africa remain predominantly agricultural, due to an increase in global food demand and the availability of arable land across the continent.

By using technology as a sustainable and scalable resource, we are able to take agriculture to new heights as we come up with food systems to ensure food security and realize the Global Goal 2.

In agriculture, digitalization has become a game changer in boosting productivity, sustainability, profitability and resilience to climate change.

Our services around Agricultural Technology Include:

  • IoT and Sensors in the Field

We set up and invest on IoTs and sensors in farms. The IoT simplifies and streamlines the collection, inspection and overall distributing of agricultural resources using sensors on equipment and materials.

We educate farmers on placing sensors strategically around farms along with image recognition technologies which allows them to view their crops from anywhere. These sensors send farmers real-time information which will guide their decisions for increased and sustainable productivity.

  • Drone Technology

We invest on the use of drones for crop monitoring, prediction of soil quality through analysis and spraying of farm chemicals as a means to combat environmental factors that affect farm produce.

  • RFID Sensors and Tracking

At Empreus, we use RFID sensors with farmers. After crops are harvested, RFID sensors are used to track food from the field to the store. The end user, or the consumer, will be able to follow a detailed trail about the food they consume from the farm it came to the location where it was purchased. This fosters the trust in manufacturers and the responsibility to provide fresh produce.

If there is an outbreak, it is easier for us and the farmers to track the produce back to the farm or factory where it was processed. These tracking systems could reduce apprehension regarding allergens and health requirements for consumers.

  • Machine Learning and Analytics

We develop and use machine learning and advanced analytics to mine data for trends that’s necessary for;

  1. Predictions on which traits and genes will be best for crop production, giving farmers all over Africa the best breed for their location and climate.
  2. Creating proficient and effective forecasts for future farming.
